Listen to the piece:
Composed as part of the Missa Lux et Tenebrae, a commissioned work for Consortium Vocale Berlin and conductor Rory Wainwright Johnston, this Kyrie explores the emotional certainty and conviction underlying the prayer text. Written for five-part mixed choir (SMATB), the movement is driven by a strong rhythmic impulse and grounded in a sonorous world shaped by quintal harmony, lending the music an archaic and profound character. Departing from the traditional three-part form, an additional central section weaves together the movement’s principal ideas and creates a distinctive formal arc. Suitable both for liturgical use and the concert stage, the work offers choirs an expressive and structurally engaging addition to their repertoire.
Complete Mass: Missa Lux et Tenebrae
The other individual movements of the Mass are also available as separate editions: Gloria, Sanctus, Agnus Dei
